Congratulations on creating some fantastic solutions for the “Egg Drop” challenge, and well done to team Jade that had the most successful solution. We were very impressed with your efforts!

Hello and Welcome to our Product Design Blog site for the University of Derby’s Product Design and Design Technology programmes.
On this Blog we want to do a number of things, the product design team would like it to be a discussion forum about the courses, design, interests, the Uni, jobs and anything else related to your time here at the University of Derby.
We also want input from other University’s, both at home and abroad, to allow us all to get a greater perspective on Product Design and Industrial Design education, as well as the industry itself.
Also, I’d like to do some research or exchange work with an American University specialising in either Industrial Design or Product Design, so if there’s any state side Academics that would like me to come and work with them, drop me a line!
So please, enjoy the site and let us know what you think.

Congratulations on getting this up and running Karl…definately the future!
Another Karlos special woohoo! It’s a damn good idea. Now to get people to talk to each other lol!
Who’s going to new designers and when is it? Do we know what software we will be using next year? Any chance of getting a plotter?!
New Designers preview evening is on Wednesday 11th July 2007, with the show opening on 12th July, running till 15th July. Look on there website!!
Not sure who we’re taking yet, everything to play for!
Talk to Dan about the plotter, possibly.
Any idea what software we will be using next year? Alot of people have been wondering if we are getting double monitors in the new CAD lab?
Could local companies who have had previous placement students or graduate work for them have their details on this site? Or could there be a page on placements as they are very hard to find
Nice work on the web site Karl - seems a shame that no one is really saying or discussing a lot. Always interested to hear what other product designers have to say about various aspects of the subject.
I did a portfolio & poster surgery for the 3rd year students at Wolverhampton the other week. Kind of strange being on the other side of the table. I was mildly amused at the advice I was giving as it sounded remarkably similar to someone elses…
Will be interesting to see how the degree show goes. Good luck to all the students who are about to finish their final year!
